About this opportunity:
Cenovus is currently looking for a Financial Analyst for the Lima, Ohio location. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, the successful candidate will be responsible for (including but not limited to) assuring accounting and process controls are in place and operating effectively with respect to procure-to-pay, financial and management reporting, account reconciliations, and other special projects while functioning as a liaison on corporate processes and working with cross-function partners.
Responsibilities:
- Handle the business unit financial analysis and support for the Lima Refinery.
- Perform shared services accounting and coordinate all related activities with our shared service partners.
- Perform Operating Cost analysis and reporting, working with business unit peers to develop variance analysis required for Leadership Team meetings.
- Provide finance and accounting services (which include accruals, allocations, intercompany transactions, journal entries, preparation and/or understanding of financial statements, etc.)
- Interpret results of business unit reporting and develop qualitative explanations for discussion.
- Perform monthly/quarterly variance analysis and reporting including management summary reporting and site wide and area operating expense.
- Work with business unit to identify corrective action to close variances.
- Assist with operating Long-Range Plan, budget, and forecast preparation including operating expense and project portfolio - capital and expense, related variance analysis and commentary vs. budget and prior forecast.
- Partner with other accounting and refinery personal in the development of monthly operating expense, forecast, and the annual budget.
- Provide financial information supporting business unit KPIs and industry benchmarking efforts.
- Maintain effective governance, risk, and compliance, including the implementation of control activities and provide assurance as to whether business controls are in place and operating effectively.
- Identify best business practices and process improvement opportunities.
- Respond to ad hoc requests and participate in ad hoc projects as required.
- Performs various other analysis and accounting duties to support the department.
- Ensure monthly accounting results are accurate and up to date including accruals for un-processed items.
- Liaise with refinery staff and head office support to ensure procure-to-pay process is delivering world class results.
- Complete balance sheet account reconciliations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years’ experience financial/data analysis experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, financial control, reporting skills.
- Able to interpret and communicate financial information with clarity.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field from an accredited institution.
- Ability to interact with all levels of management in a professional manner.
- Good understanding of how Finance processes and systems operate.
- Understanding of system controls, financial controls, and risk assessment.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint experience.
- Strong impact, interpersonal, and networking skills and able to make a significant contribution to local management team.
- Minimal travel.
