ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Accounting Manager will play a significant role in evolving the Melissa & Doug finance organization. This person will serve as a key partner to FP&A, HR, and other functions and will be responsible for building brand new accounting processes and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the company’s General Accounting and Accounts Payable functions
- Lead the monthly closing process, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed variance analysis.
- Identify inefficiency in the close process and implement necessary changes such as workflow and technical improvements
- Responsible for leading a team including motivating, coaching, training, and mentoring team members
- Assist FP&A in monthly reporting to ensure the proper reporting of transactions within entities, accounts, and departments
- Provide technical accounting support including establishing policies, drafting technical accounting memos, and implementing new accounting pronouncements
- Support the annual financial statement audit and ensure appropriate controls over accounting and financial reporting
- Partner with various functions and business owners to drive key system implementation initiatives and improvements
- Partner with the Spin Master Accounting team and broader Finance function to integrate processes
Qualifications:
- 7-10 years of relevant experience; ideally includes experience within a public company
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required, CPA preferred
- Experience with complex ERP systems such as Oracle Fusion or SAP
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, SOX, and SEC reporting requirements
- Experience creating, implementing, managing, and monitoring effective internal controls
- Passionate about leading change and solving problems
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated with desire for continuous improvement
