Position: Comptroller

Job Summary:
Under limited direction, the Comptroller provides financial data results for the City of Greenville. Responsibilities include maintaining general accounting records, preparing financial reports, managing payroll data, coordinating audits, and overseeing cash and investments. Additionally, the Comptroller supervises staff, resolves issues, and conducts performance reviews.
Job Duties:
Essential Functions
- Maintain General Accounting Records
Review requests and account activity, oversee journal entries, and review financial reports.
- Prepare Interim and Annual Reports:
Review financial reports, prepare audits, and submit financial statements.
- Manage Outstanding Debt Issues:
Review debt service, debt coverage ratio, and lease agreements.
- Manage Property Tax Collections and Intergovernmental Agreements:
Review tax reports, revenue entries, and tax district collections.
- Maintain Cash and Investments:
Review cash flow, approve transactions, and reconcile investments.
Manage staff, conduct evaluations, ensure compliance, and participate in hiring.
Qualifications:
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, over 6 years of accounting management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specific experience in a municipal setting.
- Certified Government Finance Officer or CPA.
Driver's License Requirements
Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.
Performance Requirements
Knowledge of municipal accounting, financial standards, and regulations. Ability to interpret laws, prepare reports, supervise staff, and maintain confidentiality.
