The University of Utah Campus Store is seeking an Accounting Specialist, who will work directly under the Accounting Supervisor to provide oversight for all petty cash and monetary transitions for the University Campus Store’s multiple locations. This position oversees cash control within all Campus Store locations and provides clerical support to Campus Store accountants.
Under the direction of our Accounting Supervisor, the Accounting Specialist is responsible for the preparation, verification, and distribution of all monetary transactions processed within the University Campus Store and its multiple locations. This includes the creation of all cash bags for multiple locations, maintaining a balanced cash fund, preparing deposits, processing all petty cash reimbursements, and various other duties related to the Campus Store Cash Room. Additionally, this position will provide clerical support to other Accounting staff that includes the reconciling of general ledger accounts, statement generation, and posting payments.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and distribute cash register bags for main store, Health Sciences store, and concessions.
- Maintain a balanced cash fund.
- Order fund increases/decreases and denomination exchanges when needed.
- Process cash from registers and prepare deposits.
- Prepare Special Deposits for checks.
- Process deposits and denomination exchanges with outlying locations.
- Process petty cash reimbursements; accept and record payments for shipping, copies, etc.; and prepare monthly Expense Clearing journal entry.
- Coordinate, communicate, and support the Accounting Supervisor in all efforts to support and uphold Campus Store and cash room policies and procedures.
- Ensure separation of duties and dual controls when handling special cash needs.
- Assist department staff with questions on payment or purchasing documents.
- Assist with preparation of various accounting and financial reports.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus two years full-time clerical accounting experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. The ability to understand, interpret, and apply University and departmental regulations; demonstrated spreadsheet skills; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience using software programs such as PeopleSoft or Kronos may be required for certain positions.
