Position Summary
The IT Portfolio Management Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and tracking of IT projects within the organization. This role involves managing the IT project portfolio to ensure alignment with business objectives, optimizing resource allocation, and delivering projects on time and within budget. The IT Portfolio Management Manager works closely with senior leadership, project managers, and other stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives and improve project outcomes.
Accountable for business results primarily achieved through the work of others. Manages staff, sets direction, and deploys resources. Has responsibility for employee development, performance reviews, pay reviews, and staffing decisions. Accountable for business, functional or operational areas, processes, or programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the IT project portfolio, ensuring projects are aligned with the organization’s strategic goals and priorities. Evaluate and prioritize projects based on business value, resource capacity, and risk.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of a team of IT professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure assignments are completed in accordance with established guidelines.
- Understand the overall organizational vision and collaborate with management to set team goals that translate into actionable plans.
- Establish and maintain governance processes for portfolio management. Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor portfolio performance.
- Maintain a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, leading the team through periods of change and transformation.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify technology needs and opportunities, providing effective solutions to address business needs.
- Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and financial tracking of the IT project portfolio.
- Assist in the development and management of the department budget, tracking expenses, and ensuring that resources are allocated effectively.
- Stay abreast of the latest technology trends and make recommendations for adopting new technologies.
- Assess and identify technology needs and opportunities, making recommendations for system enhancements.
- Partner with leadership to develop strong business cases for technology initiatives.
- Responsible for recruitment, development, retention, and performance management of talent.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or other computer-related degree required.
- 10+ years of diversified IT experience required.
- 5+ years of experience in IT portfolio management and proven track record managing complex IT portfolios required.
- 3+ years of experience directly leading professional staff required.
- SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Certification preferred.
