JOB SUMMARY:
Provides leadership and professional analyst work in the areas of cost accounting and variance investigation in a manufacturing environment to drive continuous improvement and ensure data integrity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads and engages in ongoing cost accounting activities, reporting and analysis. Creates and maintains procedures to document work processes.
- Builds and maintains costing information (standard cost) within ERP System. Leverages ERP system capabilities to streamline business processes and ensure data integrity in collaboration with IT and Purchasing Departments. Serves as ERP superuser for areas of responsibility.
- Applies understanding of multi-level bill of materials to develop part costs, maintain and analyze variances (standard costs versus actual costs), and ensure that costs accurately reflect manufacturing operations and procurement activities.
- Partners with management to develop, analyze and report key financial and operational performance indicators on an ongoing basis including, inventory, rework, direct and indirect hours, manufacturing expenses, payroll, and scrap expense. Creates annual budget and monthly forecast process.
- Analyzes expenses and transactions; ensures that transactions are recorded accurately and assigned to the appropriate projects and departments.
- Creates new part setup relating to inventory parts. Ensures part classes and general ledger controls are accurate.
- Assists with monthly closing activities related to inventory and COGS, ensuring that all expenses are recorded according to GAAP. Delivers timely and accurate work product.
- Provides ongoing analysis specific to margin attainment and variances. Supports operations, engineering, and supply chain in identifying sources of variance and aiding in making necessary adjustments to better reflect actual costs and/or reach cost goals. Recommends changes to pricing and complete material escalation calculations based upon changing labor and material costs.
- Provides detailed financial analysis and reports of expenses including breakdowns of project costs, forecasts of remaining expenses and opportunities to increase efficiencies.
- Assists with resolving discrepancies by collecting and investigating data, issuing adjustments, and tracking delays.
- Accurately classifies, records, and summarizes numerical and financial data and accounts to compile spreadsheets and records using journals, ledgers, and/or ERP System (accounting system).
- Assists with internal and external audits as needed.
- Comply with applicable federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by assisting in areas as needed, including special projects, general office and other administrative functions.
- Proceeds with minimal supervision.
- Follows and complies with safety policies and procedures.
- Meets attendance policy requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution. CPA preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. Exposure to high product mix and complex, multi-level bills of material preferred. Solid understanding of key costing concepts (i.e. direct costs, material and labor, overhead, fixed and variable costs, inventory, developing BOM and costing standards) is required. Previous experience gathering source data, performing analysis, and proactively presenting a point of view to key stakeholders is required. Experience with ERP systems, preferably Epicor. Advanced Microsoft Office Excel skills are required.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, such as multi-page spreadsheets. Ability to communicate effectively with employees and other Company stakeholders. Ability to respond to technical inquiries from regulatory agencies or members of the business community. All communications must be handled with professional expertise, meaning that they are complete and thorough, appropriately documented, and proper follow-through is provided. Ability to make presentations to senior management is essential.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply economic and accounting principles, arithmetic, algebra, calculus, and statistics to analyze data and solve problems.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Requires considerable initiative and decision-making judgment. Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills is necessary, including the ability to interface with all levels of employees. Must be detail-oriented, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and assess priorities to meet deadlines, recognize workflow, and carefully plan short and long-term projects.
