Description
The Accounting Manager develops and manages reliable accounting information and reporting on income, expenses, assets, liability, and capital for management planning and financial reporting requirements for the credit union and the affiliated non-profit Latino Community Development Center (LCDC). The Accounting Manager will manage accounting functions to include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, budgets, cost management, credit and collections, general ledger, investments, and taxes. Upon hiring, the initial role (12-18 mos.) for this position will be the primary consultant for the finance and accounting department leading up to a major core conversion.
Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets and income and cash flow statements, to provide accurate and timely financial information to stakeholders such as executives, shareholders, and regulatory bodies.
- Manage accounting for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, credit and collections, general ledger, investments, and taxes.
- Be responsible for reconciling revenue reports, general ledgers, balance sheet accounts, and suspense postings, as well as for reporting and reconciling fixed-asset and pre-paid expense ledgers.
- Ensure daily balance sheet (loan and share) examination, and preparation of daily and monthly journal entries for accurate end-of-month close.
- Lead the analysis and reconciliation of current expected credit losses (CECL).
- Collaborate with developing budgets and forecasts, track performance against budgeted goals, and provide variance analysis to identify areas of concern or improvement.
- Oversee the maintenance and optimization of financial systems (e.g., ERP software) to support accurate and efficient financial operations, including the chart of accounts, general ledger, and reporting structures.
- Conduct special accounting studies, analyses, and special projects as requested by management, and maintain complex computer-based analyses and reports of credit union accounting records.
- Establish and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard company assets, ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and minimize the risk of fraud or error.
- Ensure that all department activities are in accordance with GAAP and that the accounting records are maintained accurately and in compliance with laws and regulations.
- Supervise and provide guidance to accounting staff, including assigning tasks, reviewing work, conducting performance evaluations, and facilitating professional development opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, enhance efficiency, and implement best practices, such as automation of routine tasks, to improve the overall effectiveness of the accounting function.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, such as Business, Finance, or Accounting, with 8 years of related experience in accounting.
- Professional proficiency in English. Spanish fluency is preferred but not required.
- Ability to understand and calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, and percentages.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and skills in QuickBooks, advanced Excel, and other Microsoft Office products.
- Experience in analysis of multi-system outputs.
- Must have the ability to learn other various software programs quickly.
- Ability to manage time with strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
- Proven ability to solve problems creatively and proactively.
- Team player with the ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Physical requirements: Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, use the computer and telephone to complete work, and lift up to 30 pounds at times.
