The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative functions of the Finance department, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and managing the overall finance operation. The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting and financial management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage a team of finance staff, overseeing daily operations and ensuring timely completion of tasks
- Review and approve payment documents, purchase requests, and contracts in the absence of the Director, Finance
- Monitor payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely payment to all colleagues
- Manage weekly labor management meetings with the Director, Finance
- Approve payroll transactions, including ticket requests, salary advances, and family & friends visit authorizations
- Review monthly payroll accrual requirements and service charge distribution schedule
- Ensure accurate authorization and charging of accounting transactions to the correct accounts/departments
- Review weekly cash balances and ensure sufficient cash reserves at all times
- Supervise monthly closing processes, ensuring timely completion and submission of reports to Corporate Support
- Review and approve monthly journal entries, trial balance, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Produce monthly Management Accounts, Executive Summary report, and other reporting requirements
- Review departmental P&L's and attend monthly financial review with department heads
- Liaise with department heads, vendors, banks, and Corporate Support to resolve issues effectively
- Coach staff on internal control and accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting exercises
- Ensure internal control compliance, monitor internal audit reports, and address any issues that arise
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years' experience as Financial Controller or Assistant Financial Controller in a luxury hotel or resort
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (ICAEW/CPA from an accredited institution preferred)
- Excellent attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and ability to work under pressure
- Ability to delegate tasks, lead a team effectively, and negotiate with stakeholders
- Proficient in accounting systems, common hotel systems, Microsoft Office programs, email, and internet
- Friendly demeanor and positive outlook on all matters
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
