Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)
Hours per Pay Period: 0.90 = 72 hours (Non-Exempt)
Starting Wage DOE:$25.12 - 31.40
Assists in the care of the surgical patient by performing the scrubbing role of handling instruments, equipment and supplies. The OB Surgical Technologist understands the procedures being performed in the LDRP OR Suite, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, maintains a sterile field, and is responsible for pre- and post operatively for the technical components of surgery. Additionally, OB Surgical Technologist is an integral part of managing the physical environment of the LDRP unit.
Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrates ability to assume responsibility and accountability as a surgical and obstetric support person under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Assist the Labor & Delivery team in the care of patients, equipment and supplies.
- Appropriately utilizes aseptic techniques.
- Scrubs for cases according to established standards of sterile procedure.
- Pass instruments, sponges, sutures and other sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assist during procedures/deliveries as directed by the surgeon/provider.
- Completes counts accurately: instruments, sponges and sharps for all surgeries and procedures on the LDRP.
- Identifies potential intraoperative complications and responds appropriately to identified needs.
- Receive surgical specimens, properly identify and preserve specimens during procedure and notify circulating nurse of source material.
- Cleans instruments and equipment to be returned for sterilizing.
- Assist with or perform according to scope of practice, patient care activities according to departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain adequate supply levels and room readiness.
- Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality of patient care.
- Identifies needs and sets goals for own personal growth and development. Meets all system and departmental educational requirements.
- Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
- Assists RN with movement of patients.
- Performs vital signs.
- Responsible for the quality assurance log and temperature maintenance logs.
- Demonstrate ability to function as a back-up to the Unit Clerk.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
• Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent
Experience
• Two years of experience as an Obstetrical Technician, preferred
• Previous CNA experience preferred
• Previous OB related experience preferred
Certifications and Licenses
• Certification by Liaison Council for Surgical Technologist (LCC-ST) desired
