The Chief Accounting Office is seeking an energetic and results-oriented Accounting Manager to join our team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This position is primarily responsible for accounting and financial reporting matters related to Equitable’s pension and post-retirement benefits and equity award plans. This role is also responsible for working to improve accounting processes and controls, requiring a team member who can proactively identify challenges and actively work to find solutions. This role will report to the Senior Director of Financial Reporting.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide accounting support and oversight for Equitable's affiliated pension plans and equity awards, including review of journal entries and work-papers.
- Provide in-depth analysis of financial data and results relating to pensions, post-retirement benefits, equity-based awards and other related accounting matters.
- Provide oversight for the preparation of annual financial statements for each retirement plan and proactively manage relationships with external auditors (PWC) and other business partners.
- Research technical accounting theory and apply GAAP appropriately within the organization.
- Prepare and review US GAAP and Statutory footnote disclosures for 10-Q and 10-K.
- Provide supporting documentation to audit and regulatory requests.
- Review and approve balance sheet account reconciliations, cash roll forwards, and journal entries.
- Provide guidance and oversight to offshore staff, including reviewing and providing feedback on work products.
The base salary range for this position is $87,000-$113,000. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. In addition to base pay, Equitable provides compensation to reward performance with base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short-term incentive compensation opportunities. Eligibility for these programs depends on level and functional area of responsibility.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 7+ years of accounting experience
- Demonstrated understanding of US GAAP accounting theory, controls and reporting
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA
- Established analytical skills with understanding of Pension plan accounting and/or Equity awards processes and concepts
- Knowledge and working experience within financial services industry
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet project deadlines and work within a fast-paced, project-driven and team environment
- Knowledge of SAP and MS products

Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes.
