Department: Facility Maintenance and Engineering
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Cooler Operations Team is comprised of eight essential functions: Logistics (internal/external fleet), Supply Chain, Receiving, Cooling, Warehousing, Shipping, Manufacturing, and Facility Maintenance and Engineering. The team is focused on the receiving, cooling, and shipping of products in the shortest amount of time to ensure finished products are handled according to specifications. They support and manage the Bonifresh manufacturing operations, ensuring all internal and external customer needs are met with a focus on safety, food safety, quality, and customer service.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Oversees maintenance and repairs of ammonia refrigeration systems. Supervises refrigeration employees. Maintains temperature to plant specifications and USDA requirements. Keeps and maintains accurate records for local, state, and federal inspections.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Includes the following and/or other duties assigned based on business decisions:
- Maintains ammonia cooling systems, ensuring cleanliness and safety compliance, performing proactive maintenance, working closely with Ammonia Operators/Technicians, and keeping department supervisors informed of system issues.
- Must be able to wear a respirator and work in low-temperature environments while troubleshooting and repairing cooling equipment.
- Proactively seeks methods of improving systems by communicating with other system technicians within and outside the company.
- Complete PSM, RMP, and CalARP programs and required documentation.
- Develop and oversee control systems to prevent or deal with violations of legal guidelines and internal policies.
- Evaluate the efficiency of controls and improve them continuously.
- Revise procedures and reports periodically to identify hidden risks or non-conformity issues.
- Draft, modify, and implement company policies.
- Collaborate with department heads to monitor enforcement of standards and regulations.
- Work with management to ensure effective organizational design and that roles are correctly organized, defined, documented, and communicated to all employees.
- Ensure effective safety procedures, tools, and record keeping are managed through site leadership.
- Adhere to company GMPs (good manufacturing practices), safety procedures, and all other quality processes.
- Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when required.
- All other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly supervises employees in the refrigeration area and Temp Employees.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including training new employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of experience.
- Demonstrated experience in using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team; prioritize deadlines and projects, coordinate efforts of multiple contributors, and establish time frames for completion.
- Willingness to embrace and follow the Bonita Packing Co. Employee Handbook; ability to interact constructively with employees at all levels, including upper management and community members, with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, including effective writing skills to prepare correspondence, documents, and reports.
- Willingness to meet Bonita Packing and department standards for attendance.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret data.
- Ammonia certificates and operator level training preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have the ability to walk, talk, hear, see, speak, concentrate, reach in all directions, stoop, bend, and lift up to 60 lbs.
