Summary:
The staff accountant is responsible for assisting in the preparation, analysis, and maintenance of financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards. They collaborate with various departments to support financial reporting, budgeting, and auditing activities.
Responsibilities:
Accounting and finance:
- Monitor the financial system in order to ensure the finances are maintained in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain financial management policies & procedures, and department standard operating procedures.
- Maintain and reconcile various general ledger balance sheet accounts.
- Monitor and analyze actual vs budget balances.
- Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into the accounting system.
- Assist in month-end and year-end close processes.
- Provide assistance during the annual audit.
- Provide assistance with preparation of the operating/capital budgets.
- Provide assistance during the processing of the year-end 1099's.
- Develop and/or maintain effective processes that can provide accurate data to be verified against the accounting software.
- Maintain and keep organized the electronic data files, financial files, and records.
Financial Analysis:
- Conduct financial analysis and variance explanations.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data.
Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable:
- Reconcile & analyze vendor invoices.
- Issue, code, and authorize purchase orders/invoices.
- Reconcile event records, prepare commission reports.
Audit and Compliance:
- Support internal and external audit processes.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulations.
- Assist in the implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Required bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Previous experience in accounting or finance roles preferred.
- CPA is preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge in hospitality, event-based business, entertainment, and/or project management.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, especially Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
