ABOUT THE POSITION:
This is an individual contributor role that is a strong utility player within the Accounting and Finance group with an emphasis on operational/financial analysis in conjunction with the related accounting.
This role reports directly to the Corporate Controller and will work closely with the Accounting leadership team in various financial activities. This includes, but is not limited to, derivative and inventory activity with a strong emphasis on the comprehension of underlying transactions within the organizations operational and financial reporting systems. Additionally, this role holds responsibility for the preparation of various financial analyses related to the organizations operations.
JOB DUTIES:
Responsible for a full range of planning and analysis activities:
- Create financial models/analytics
- Challenge data and information integrity
- Continuously improve accuracy by aligning key drivers and identifying variance root causes
- Support management in executing initiatives and process improvement efforts
- Assist in the preparation and submission of analyses for the annual audit
- Work within a team environment in ensuring transactions are accounted for correctly.
- Provide excellent service by communicating clearly and professionally to colleagues, managers and counterparties.
- Participate in financial close activities
- Prepare variance analyses on actual versus plan
- Prepare underlying/supporting journal entries pertaining to gross profit
- Understand operational transactions, including derivative transactions, to support financial reporting and analysis
- Investigate and understand atypical transactions and their impact on gross profit
- Work closely with Risk team to understand Marked to Market (MtM) balances affecting gross profit transactions and reporting
- Contribute to the preparation of the Monthly & Quarterly reporting to the management team and Board of Directors
- Support management by preparing documentation for audit requests as needed
- Perform special projects and ad hoc analyses as requested by the Accounting and Finance leadership team
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- 5+ years accounting/analysis work experience
- Hybrid work arrangement
- A high degree of personal initiative and self-motivation is required
- Strong understanding of financial analysis and financial modeling, including the appreciation for understanding of underlying data
- Strong computer skills with significant concentration in Excel, PowerPoint and experience utilizing reporting packages required; Management Reporter and Power BI reporting is a plus
- Proven problem solving and analytical skills required
- Willingness to work and learn in different areas and assume responsibility for complex accounting areas must be able to demonstrate the ability to bridge the gap between operational intent of transactions and the financial reporting outcomes/results
- Ability to effectively maintain relationships across all levels of the organization (operations, Risk, back office) a positive and flexible attitude is required
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently to find solutions to issues
- Ability to see the organizational big picture with ability to understand and interpret details of underlying processes
- Right Angle and Microsoft Great Plains experience is a plus
