The Senior IGA Specialist reports to the Director of Legislative Affairs and Funding Opportunities of the Harris County Intergovernmental and Global Affairs Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports advocacy for the county's approved legislative agenda.
Collaborates with department staff, government officials and staff, external liaisons, associations, and county personnel to achieve successful policy outcomes.
Supports the development of legislative, appropriations, funding, and regulatory proposals and language through research, analysis, and drafting.
Assists with communication strategies and tools.
Tracks and assesses legislation and regulations for the department.
Tracks global policies, issues, and international stakeholders that interact with the county.
Delivers presentations, writes, or gives testimony, and attends meetings, hearings, and events as needed.
Prepares written reports, letters of support, memos, one-pagers, presentations and talking points on complex public policy issues.
Supports the department’s efforts to respond to legislative and constituent inquiries.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires Supporting Documents:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
Five (5) years of experience working in a public policy or government affairs related capacity with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
Experience developing policy proposals with clients/stakeholders/elected officials.
Proven project management or project coordination experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes.
Excellent time management, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams), and written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships and networks.
Ability to lift up to 30lbs.
Ability to stand or walk, including with assistance, for up to 16 hours.
