Job Description:
Harper Brothers Construction, a leader in the heavy civil construction industry, is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting within the construction industry and be proficient in using Viewpoint software. This role is vital to ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cost management, and compliance with industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Perform detailed account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, balance sheets, and general ledger accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing insights based on financial data.
- Job Costing and Analysis:
- Utilize Viewpoint software to manage job costing, including tracking project costs, identifying variances, and ensuring proper allocation of expenses.
- Provide detailed financial analysis of ongoing projects, including profitability analysis, cost trends, and financial performance.
- Collaborate with project managers and other departments to monitor and control project budgets, costs, and revenue recognition.
- Month-End and Year-End Close:
- Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and adjustments, to ensure the general ledger reflects accurate financial information.
- Coordinate with the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll departments to ensure all transactions are accounted for in a timely manner.
- Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, including sales tax, use tax, and income tax.
- Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Support external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- System and Process Improvement:
- Leverage Viewpoint software to enhance financial processes, ensuring data accuracy and process efficiency.
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations and improve financial reporting accuracy.
- Provide training and support to junior accounting staff and other team members on accounting processes and software usage.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with a strong emphasis on construction accounting.
- Proficiency in Viewpoint software is required.
- Deep understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, revenue recognition, and WIP (Work in Progress) reporting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
