Under the supervision of the Director of Accounting Services, the Financial Analyst – Cash Accounting assists in a wide variety of accounting and financial responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities
Performs various balance sheet and income statement reconciliations with the financial system on a periodic basis.
Reconciles bank accounts to the financial statements. Investigates and resolves any outstanding reconciling items.
Coordinates the reconciliations between the accounts receivable and student subsidiary databases and the financial systems.
Assists in updating, improving and documenting office policies and procedures.
Prepares and provides information for various SCSU, state, federal, and System Office reports and other agency requests for financial information.
Assists in the fiscal year end and interim financial closings and related statement preparations.
Participates in all financial audits including those made by state, federal, internal and private audit firms (provides reports, analyses, backup and other research as requested).
Assists in financial system implementation projects and in providing support and instruction to university members on the finance system. Prepares and posts journal entries and related documents in the campus and State databases.
Assists in financial projects and dashboard reporting for internal management.
Acts as general resource person for finance inquiries from campus departments and outside stakeholders such as the banks and other State agencies.
Assists in the research and implementation of new GASB statements and pronouncements. Collaborates with ConnSCU and other State agencies in interpreting and applying new accounting guidelines to Southern's transactions.
Assists in maintaining all accounting related to the University's cash, accounts receivable, revenue and expense financial reporting. This includes researching and updating tables and database setups for automated finance feeds to the ledger from high-volume subsidiary or peripheral databases such as the credit/debit card third-party processors, Higher One transactions, plus the internal subsidiary tables for financial aid, registration, admissions, housing, student refund and vendor payment transactions.
Assists with fixed asset and grants accounting work as requested and when needed to help meet deadlines and as a way of collaborating on improving processing and work flow issues common to multiple accounting/fiscal areas.
Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level and responsibilities of the position.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration required. Master's Degree preferred. Three years of experience in accounting or business required. Higher education fiscal experience is preferred. Strong expertise with Microsoft Office required, especially Excel. Experience working with a high volume of data through relational database queries is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
