Summary
The Manager, Investment Accounting will oversee the processes and people associated with ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the Company’s $45B investment portfolio. This position is part of the Close and Analysis team within the organization’s Investment Center of Excellence and will be primarily focused on leading the team responsible for transaction processing and cash application process within the organization. The candidate must possess strong Statutory and GAAP accounting knowledge for investments and be able to coach others through problem resolution and decision making. In addition, this role will serve as a champion of change and drive process improvements within the cash application and reporting team.
Organization
The Manager, Investment Center of Excellence reports to the Director, Investment Center of Excellence and works closely with an external third-party investment accounting administrator and external investment managers.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Leadership and oversight of team responsible for cash application and reconciliation for insurance company general account and separate account investments.
- Lead the team in the completion and review of the investment position reconciliation between subledger, custody and investment managers.
- Ensure the monitoring of, and accounting for payables, receivables and suspense items are handled in accordance with department expectations.
- Responsible for monitoring team tasks to ensure timely completion in accordance with monthly close timeline.
- Formal review of reports, reconciliations and documentation of investment-related general ledger income statement and balance sheet accounts.
- Escalation of issues with the third-party accounting administrator and asset managers to assist with resolution of variances and reconciling items.
- Provide consultation and advice and direction to internal and external business partners on investment and accounting related issues.
- Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and maintenance of evidence of control procedures performed.
- Actively seeks, proposes, and drives process improvement initiatives and acts as a champion for change across the team.
- Serve as a lead for projects and initiatives that impact the Close & Analysis Cash Team.
- Responsible for training new team members and ensuring the team is cross-trained on critical tasks.
Experience And Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Industry experience in life insurance or financial services industries required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in investment accounting required.
- Aptitude for cash application within an investment accounting setting required.
- Familiarity with security master data and its impacts to investment results required.
- Experience in a leadership role strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills required.
Skills And Abilities
- Must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of accounting for investments and assist with research and resolution of complex accounting issues.
- Proficient in Excel. Experience with Clearwater Analytics investment accounting platform a plus.
- Able to work & effectively communicate with all levels of management, including executive management.
- Strong verbal and writing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and courage to challenge existing processes.
