TITLE: Senior Cost Accountant
LOCATION: Westchester, IL
REPORTS TO: Cost Accounting Manager
Primary Function
Provide financial information to support the cost accounting and product costing functions within the US/Canadian operations. Participate in the month end and year end closing process as required. Provide back-up for the Cost Accounting Manager and assist in other Cost accounting functions.
Key Deliverables/Critical Deliverables
Business
- Product Costing – Maintain and process the material ledger close model for the $2.5B US business and analyze results as they actualize.
- Segment Reporting – Ensure costs are allocated accurately across business segments and reporting is accurate for COGS and freight.
- Master Data - Maintain product cost master data, including BOM and Routings, Cost Centers, Profit Centers, and Cost structure in SAP.
- Inventory Reserves – Calculate and maintain inventory reserves in accordance with company policy.
- Audit Activity - Prepare and provide financial information for internal/external audits, Sarbanes-Oxley testing, and corporate accounting ensuring information is accurate and timely.
- Account Reconciliations - Prepare monthly account reconciliations in a timely manner to ensure internal control policies are being followed.
- Forecasting/Budgeting – Work with FP&A to prepare cost estimate for each Goal and LE process.
- Business Analysis - Oversee the preparation and consolidation of both monthly and quarterly variance analysis reports; ensuring reports are completed accurately and on time.
- Business Process Procedures - Ensure Business Process Procedures (BPP’s) are written and current for all job functions and that they comply with internal control policies.
Agility and Innovation
- Journal Entries - Book journal entries as required and ensure that transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with applicable standards.
- Account Analysis - Perform account analysis, product costing variance analysis, and other projects as requested by manager.
- Process Improvement - Conduct process reviews to identify improvements to enhance the quality of Product Costing and financial reporting. Lead the implementation of improvements identified through this process.
Relationships and People
- Develop Relationships – Build and maintain trusted partnerships with Plant Accounting, Supply Chain, Shared Services, and others to ensure business objectives are achieved.
- Collaborate with other groups on a regular basis to ensure the integrity of actual cost results, and provide guidance as necessary.
If you have the following qualifications and experience, we want you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 4 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience using SAP modules (CO, FI, MM, SD Preferred) Knowledge of cost accounting structures and cost absorption.
- Demonstrated ability to understand business processes and articulate business issues as they relate to financial data.
- Demonstrated ability to identify issues, develop solutions and make and support decisions to resolve problems and take advantage of opportunities.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate to various levels within the organization.
- Proven proficiency in the use of MS Office (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Travel required as necessary.
