Schedule: 8AM – 5PM (OT and weekends, as required) *May vary, depending on business needs
Salary Range: $70K - $80K yearly
Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the accountant will be the oversight of the daily accounting operations for the department. This position will develop, establish, document and enforce proper accounting methods, procedures, and policies. The accountant will develop consistent and efficient month-end close processes that ensure the timely dissemination of accurate monthly results.
The accountant must have the ability to independently identify and resolve process inefficiencies. The accountant will be responsible for leading various accounting projects and must have the ability to work cross-functionally with other areas of the business to coordinate and manage the timely completion of the assigned tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Accounting or Financial role preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance, or related field preferred.
Desired Qualifications
- Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations.
- Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Ability to learn and work with various accounting software.
- Ability to work effectively with others, as well as mentor/lead other team members.
Core Responsibilities
- Prepare and post month-end journal entries, ensuring efficient and timely completion of all month-end functions.
- Prepare accounting reports for monthly close and financial reporting cycles.
- Maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
- Maintain and/or reconcile accounting subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger (AR, inventory, fixed assets, AP, prepaids, accrued liabilities, etc.).
- Prepare month-end balance sheet account reconciliations and analysis.
- Document general ledger account descriptions, policies and procedures and reporting requirements.
- Identify and research account fluctuations or discrepancies and provide feedback and resolutions to management.
- Handle daily/weekly bank activity, such as clearing vendor payments in accounting software.
- Preparation and filing of business tax returns.
- Research and/or provide accounting information to internal and external customers.
- Assist with annual and periodic audit requests.
- Assist in the development and analysis of the annual budget.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Review existing accounting procedures, while continuing to look for process improvements.
- Cross-train and support in other accounting areas as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
