Description
The Dollar Mountain Manager is responsible for managing the daily mountain-based operation. They also help coordinate, assist and guide the off-mountain departments at Dollar Mountain. Through this direct and indirect oversight, the Manager coordinates Dollar Mountain's overall successful daily operation and associated facilities. This year-round role oversees winter resort operations and summer maintenance, reporting to the Sun Valley Director of Mountain Operations. The successful candidate will actively participate in the overall Mountain Operations leadership Team.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with Dollar Mountain department managers and supervisors to ensure staffing and training are complete and support the operational plan
- Establish and Maintain expectations for Service and Safety in alignment with company Policy and Vision
- Manage and coordinate the opening and closing plan, including the timing of snowmaking and grooming's pre-season ramp-up, opening schedules, and closing and ramp-down of operations
- Oversee the complete daily operation with an eye for detail focused on Service and Safety. Facilitate weekly meetings with all on and off-mountain department supervisors to plan and prepare for the guest and employee experiences
- Manage the scheduling and budgeting for direct report departments
- Work with the Terrain Park Manager and Ski School Manager to ensure that the teaching and development terrain is built according to plan and maintained according to expectations
- Oversee the successful build of events (New Year's Eve celebration and night ski, Pond Skim, Big Air competitions, and similar events). Primarily responsible for assisting departments and supervisors in delivering on their commitments to make these events a success
- Monitor the entire Guest Experience journey, identify areas for improvement, and delegate as needed to department supervisors
- Be the lead representative for Dollar Mountain and other Resort operations, including Transportation, Snow Removal, Janitorial, and Facility Maintenance, when needed for assistance and support
- Represent Sun Valley and Dollar Mountain with outside agencies such as Local EMS, USASA, DEQ, and neighboring properties.
- Develop a working relationship in support of partners such as SVSEF and Higher Ground for mutual benefit and growth
- Manage and oversee the summer repair and maintenance of facilities and machinery, including budgeting, scheduling vendors and suppliers (internal and external), vegetation management, and scoping larger projects
- Work in partnership with Sun Valley Catering to ensure coordinated summer use of the buildings and facilities and that maintenance work does not impact Special Events and Weddings
Qualifications:
- Previous experience managing a team or multiple teams involving support from other departments working towards a common goal of Service, Safety, and Employee Experience
- The successful candidate will ideally have proven leadership role(s) in at least one primary mountain department (Lift Operations, Patrol, Snowmaking, Grooming, Lift Maintenance, or Ski School)
- Experience managing ski resort-based Food & Beverage, Base Operations, Retail, or Ticket Sales is an alternative to mountain experience
- Strong Communicator and self-starter who has attention to Service and Safety details
- Able to work weekends and holidays as needed and some night events or operations
