Purpose:

ARAG is hiring a Senior Tax Accountant! This person will lead the execution of ARAG’s taxation initiatives and collaborate with individuals at all levels within the organization – including ARAG’s senior leadership team. Four years of tax experience in either public accounting or the insurance industry is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads the execution of company’s taxation initiatives.
- Gathers tax information and completes quarterly estimated federal and state tax calculations/payments.
- Synthesizes GAAP and Statutory financial statements to prepare workpapers for Federal and State tax returns.
- Prepares tax provision schedules, tax rate reconciliations, apportionment calculations, deferred tax reconciliations and annual tax return-to-provision true-up.
- Prepares annual ASC 740 and SSAP 101 tax workpapers and financial statement footnotes.
- Collaborates with external tax accountants for timely and accurate tax return preparation.
- Monitors nexus status of entities and coordinates periodic nexus reviews for State and other tax compliance.
- Prepares premium tax returns and determines monthly tax liability through reconciliation and tracking of State premium revenues.
- Prepares sales and use tax returns; responsible for coordination of exemption certificates, where applicable.
- Responsible for corporate compliance with informational tax returns (1099 and 1042s).
- Manages compliance with taxing authorities and filings.
- Provides guidance to Payroll team with respect to payroll tax items and/or State employment requirements.
- Maintains thorough tax records for audit and historical documentation purposes.
- Leads the development of tax accounting policies and procedures.
- Monitors tax legislation and compliance developments; successfully carries out tax research and implements appropriate action accordingly.
- Maintains understanding of Company product; stays abreast on product changes and resulting taxation impacts.
- Works closely with the Legal & Compliance department to understand and maintain state/municipal registrations of Company entities.
- Collaborates with business units in considering tax implications of business decisions.
- Possesses working knowledge of Federal and State taxation and serves as advisor to the Finance team and other departments on technical taxation knowledge; stays abreast of regulations, changes and trends.
- Addresses and resolves tax notices in a timely manner.
- Coordinates with taxing authorities during tax audits, as necessary.
- Serves as a positive role model by representing ARAG at its Best.

Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of Federal, State and local tax laws and procedures
- Thorough understanding of ASC 740
- SSAP 101 accounting for income taxes, preferred
- Knowledge of state apportionment fundamentals

Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
Experience:
- 4+ years related work experience required. Public accounting experience, preferred. Insurance industry experience, preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Associations, etc.:
- None required. CPA encouraged.
