Exciting Job Opportunity: Staff Accountant
Under the direction of the Finance Director and the Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the Controller with the general ledger, supporting all Centro personnel with budgeting and accounting processes, making journal entries, and producing account details. The role involves reconciling financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information, demonstrating proficiency with Microsoft Office products and familiarity with accounting software systems, ensuring the procurement process functions properly, and training other staff to help them with accounting and finance needs.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
- Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
- Summarizes current financial status by collecting information, preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports.
- Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
- Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
- Guides accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.
- Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
- Secures financial information by backing up critical financial documents.
- Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
- Assists the Controller in preparation of semi-monthly payroll processing.
- Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and Head Start regulations.
- Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
- Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, setting up personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Helps in treasury management ensuring cash flow needs are met.
- Contributes to team effort by carrying out related results as needed.
- Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Prepares and coordinates the preparation of reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports.
- Proficient with fixed asset management and depreciation.
- Participates in all fiscal audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Four (4) plus years of related work experience preferred.
- One year’s experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.
- Experience with Fund Accounting and accounting software in a Non-profit environment.
- Must be reliable and organized, able to work under pressure, and accurate in record keeping. Show great people skills to meet the public and work with staff.
