General Purpose of Job:
This position will perform and deliver on routine assignments/projects while leveraging and applying knowledge of Financial Reporting responsibility. Responsibilities include preparing, analyzing, and reporting on activities associated with accounting principles and standards, and financial statements.
The Role at a Glance:
As a Specialist, Financial Reporting (Statutory), you will prepare, analyze, and report on activities associated with Statutory accounting principles and standards. This position will perform routine assignments/projects while applying knowledge of Statutory Financial Reporting.
What you'll be doing:
- Prepare, analyze, and report on financial statements and supporting schedules according to the accounting and reporting calendars.
- Conduct financial analysis on consolidated and business unit results, providing ongoing support for business unit teams and partners as needed.
- Participate in accounting close activities, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Maintain knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned areas of responsibility and collaborate with management to incorporate new trends into current solutions.
- Identify and research reporting issues arising from accounting principles and standards and assess their applicability.
- Prepare, review, and file quarterly and annual NAIC financial statements and other regulatory filings.
- Support organizational initiatives by positively influencing change management within assigned areas.
- Identify and communicate to management process improvements that reduce workloads or improve quality.
- Provide support with the coordination of SOX, MAR, and regulatory testing to comply with key controls developed for the group.
- Prepare and/or review internal management reporting.
What we’re looking for:
Must-have’s:
- 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; degree in Accounting preferred.
- 1 - 3+ Years of experience in Financial Analysis or Reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to identify and recommend process improvements.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task.
- Ability to use sound judgment regarding confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Nice To-have’s:
- Prior experience in insurance/financial services.
- Experience with Hyperion Essbase, SAP Business Objects, PeopleSoft, Workiva, Sovos Statutory Reporting.
