Under general supervision, performs collections and accounting clerical work of moderate difficulty in the Student Accounts Office.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
- Monitors the student billing receivables system (Banner); submits reports; prepares and distributes statements and/or correspondence to students. Documents student account contact form with pertinent information such as date/s of correspondence sent, dates of telephone conversations.
- Generates and mails letters to students who have officially withdrawn reminding them of their financial obligation to the University. Flags computer records of students owing monies to the University.
- Monitors/maintains the addition/removal of miscellaneous charges in the student billing system.
- Updates debtor account information such as name, address, and phone number in the student record system. Responsible for imaging documents/correspondence pertaining to the Student Accounts Office.
- Reconciles various accounts on a daily/monthly basis.
- Assists with cashiering duties as needed; assists other clerks during absences or peak workload periods, such as second verification for military exemptions. Also serves in the absence of Head Cashier.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of collection practices and procedures; knowledge of basic accounting processes and procedures; knowledge of Microsoft Office suites.
- Communicates in a professional and service-oriented manner with students, family, faculty, staff, and others.
- Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment; ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner; ability to perform mathematical calculations and accounting entries accurately.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or successful completion of a GED certificate required.
- At least two years of basic bookkeeping or accounting clerical experience; minimum of one year experience in a customer service environment.
