The role can be based remotely with frequent presence in our Corning, NY Headquarters.
Role Purpose
The Director of Technical Accounting is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of Corning’s global financial accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). This position reports to the Vice President & Assistant Corporate Controller. He or she will be responsible for providing the strategic direction for the technical accounting team and for acting as the Company’s subject matter expert for technical accounting matters. This is a global position and will partner closely with business accounting teams around the world, as well as Global FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and other functions across the organization to provide technical accounting guidance to ensure transactions are accounted for accurately in the Company’s consolidated financial statements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide global oversight of technical accounting policies and proactively assess the impact of new U.S. GAAP accounting standards.
- Lead a global technical accounting team to support businesses on a variety of accounting matters to drive business decision-making and proper application of accounting and disclosure standards and regulations.
- Proactively participate in the analysis of complex accounting matters, communicating results succinctly for non-accountants to understand.
- Establish the team as a key business partner and “go-to” resource to provide technical accounting guidance to businesses and Corporate functions.
- Partner with the Director of Financial Reporting on the coordination and preparation of SEC filings and ensuring compliance to required presentation and disclosures.
- Direct interaction with external auditors on technical accounting matters, memoranda, and Company’s application of policy.
- Lead cross-functional and cross-regional implementation of various finance accounting initiatives.
- Influence decision making within a matrix management structure that positively impacts strategic business objectives.
- Provide oversight, guidance, and coaching to develop a team of high-performing professionals that add value and contribute to the Company’s success.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (Master's Degree Preferred).
- Certified Public Accountant, Big 4 public accounting and audit experience.
- Minimum of 12 to 15 years auditing, accounting, reporting experiences.
- Thorough knowledge of US GAAP, strong technical writing skills, and experience in the implementation and handling of complex U.S. GAAP accounting matters with proven ability to research and clearly articulate and document complex technical accounting issues.
- Ability to work well under pressure; strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent inter-personal skills and a proven ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships at all levels.
- Ability to think strategically and support business objectives.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills and ability to work effectively in a matrix management structure in a complex and diverse, international and multi-cultural environment.
Travel Requirement: <20%

The range for this position is $181,530.00 - $249,604.00 assuming full-time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
