SCOPE/CONTACTS:
Incumbent is primarily responsible for developing, underwriting, and servicing loans for small businesses and individuals qualifying through the Small Business Administration (SBA). The incumbent prospects new clients, develops and deepens existing relationships to grow the Bank’s loan and deposit portfolio. The incumbent will be expected to use their credit expertise to evaluate loan opportunities with sound credit judgment, build and maintain a portfolio of high-quality profitable relationships consistent with the Bank’s strategic and financial objectives. The SBA Business Development Officer will bring deals through the approval and closing process working with the appropriate internal teams (loan operations, credit and underwriting, portfolio management, etc.). Incumbent should have excellent communication and human relation skills and attend a variety of social situations in representing the Bank.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Make and service loans qualifying through the SBA personally or in conjunction with other officers.
- Provide guidance to customers to ensure their banking needs are met.
- Promote the services and profitability of the Bank.
- Develop new business to ensure a constant increase in loans and income to the Bank.
- Must actively participate in Customer Service First sales and service culture, support the values of the organization and follow established company policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Business Degree with emphasis in accounting, finance, or marketing as well as five years of previous commercial lending experience (relevant work experience may substitute for the degree requirement) is required.
- Extensive working knowledge of SBA lending policies and procedures is necessary.
- Formal credit training is preferred.
- Ability to analyze and understand financial statements of various business types as well as personal financial statements and tax returns is necessary to present a loan presentation to a committee.
- Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, and ability to prioritize work to execute tasks in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment is required.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal are necessary.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills in order to ascertain and respond to customer needs and objectives to advance the client relationship and meet the Bank's objectives.
- Strong personal drive and initiative, demonstrated work ethic, and ability to work independently and in a team are necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and related computer applications is also required.
- Incumbent must be able to work with limited supervision.
