Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid Accountant role located in Philadelphia, with flexibility for some remote work. The Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day finance and accounting tasks, including accounts payable and receivable management, bank reconciliations, general ledger analysis, and report generations. The Accountant will also manage budgeting and forecasting, cash flow analysis, and work collaboratively with other members of the finance team.

- Assist in assuring both internal and external program integrity by being alert to and reporting suspected instances of provider and employee fraud, waste, or abuse.
Essential Functions:
- Utilize MS Dynamics GP accounting software to work with both the general ledger and accounts payable systems.
- Prepare and enter journal entries.
- Prepare city invoices for provider and operating expenses to be reimbursed.
- Communicate with city representatives to ensure timely payments of city invoices, non-HC invoices, and reinvestment invoices.
- Utilize the City Of Philadelphia website to track payments made and payments in progress.
- Update Bank Log file with information of payments received and payments sent out.
- Utilize ADP reporting system to create custom reports for various analyses and schedules.
- Work on ad hoc projects and research tasks as assigned.
- Communicate with HR and Admin departments for employee-related outstanding liabilities.
- Create check requests for management review.
- Research discrepancies in payroll information and documentation to ensure payroll is accurately processed.
- Coordinate payroll processing system to ensure the system is operating efficiently, effectively, and accurately.
- Update payroll folders with ADP generated reports.
- Prepare and post monthly Master payroll journal entry.
- Prepare monthly account analyses and reconciliation. Review the support to ensure that it is adequate for audit purposes (including support for the amount, type, and justification of general ledger amounts).
- Work with various general ledger accounts and investigate through to resolution any unusual activity.
- Prepare accurate explanations and include supporting documentation for cash accounts, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable, capital assets, accounts payable, accrued expenses, and certain expense accounts.
- Perform bank reconciliation.
- Utilize Report Manager Software to prepare and send out admin to budget reports to the department directors, update folders with .pdf and excel versions of the report.
- Prepare and distribute reports to department directors regarding year-to-date expenses and budget variances.
- Audit Bank Deposits analysis.
- Take an integral part in month-end close and year-end close.
- Prepare and submit unclaimed checks to the Department of Treasury.
- Attend various trainings and seminars that are required or suggested by the management.
- Act as a key point of contact for the auditors during independent audit work.
- Communicate directly with the auditors providing explanations on how our accounting system works and what processes we have in place for purposes of their testing.
Position Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
License/Certification: N/A
- Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (type of experience flexible – internships included).
Skills:
- Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Proficient with accounting software preferred.
- Payroll software experience preferred.
- Proficient in Excel Required.
- Detail-oriented.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.

Philadelphia Residency Requirement:
- The successful candidate must be a current Philadelphia resident or become a resident within six months of hire.
