Position Summary
Due to growth, CVS Health is looking for a Senior Manager, Actuarial, to support enterprise projects and help develop strategic financial recommendations across a matrix of stakeholders. The Enterprise Economics team is tasked with developing and executing on our initiatives to optimize enterprise profitability across CVS Health and its various business units.
This Senior Manager will support critical projects to solve enterprise financial and operational challenges, as well as model and analyze potential strategic opportunities that drive results across the enterprise business segments of HCB, HCD, PSS, and PCW/Retail. A core responsibility will be leading the financial evaluation of synergies and value creation initiatives, as well as involvement with the Signify Health integration and other potential M&A or joint venture opportunities in the future.
The Senior Manager, Actuarial will perform complex, comprehensive, and accurate financial analysis of strategic initiatives, with advanced actuarial analysis when necessary, and provide recommendations that are well thought out and defendable to influence the overall strategic direction for the enterprise. This role will be heavily focused on working in cross-functional and cross-segment teams with representatives of varying levels, up to and including members of the ELT, to convert advanced data and analytics into actionable business insight.
The Senior Manager will lead the technical day-to-day processes required to develop, implement, and manage multiple enterprise initiatives, serving as the second-in-command to the Lead Director who directs and drives this work from a strategic perspective. The Senior Manager will be a subject matter expert while supporting the Lead Director in overall alignment, coordination and consistency in processes, analyses, stakeholder communication, and execution of overall deliverables.
This role also includes collaborating on business initiatives, recognizing and anticipating matters that will materially impact financial outcomes, providing sound risk management advice, and communicating all the above effectively to a variety of audiences.
Fundamental Components
Knowledge Of:
- Strong understanding of Health Care Benefits, Health Care Delivery, PBM and/or Pharmacy segments; experience across multiple segments is a plus.
- Understanding of marketplace and competitive trends, enterprise strategy and constituency expectations.
- Actuarial and/or financial analysis.

Skill In:
- Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
- Accountable for driving a high volume of work without daily direction in order to deliver strong results and service to business partners.

- Experience working with colleagues across functions such as finance, underwriting, sales, clinical, product, operations, IT & data science.
- Proven track record of working successfully in matrixed teams, as well as adapting and performing in a high pressure, highly visible, dynamic and changing environment.
- Proven project management skills including experience in development and management of multiple projects and various initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams of employees and/or business partners to drive successful completion of large-scale projects.
Ability To:
- Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of the health insurance industry, PBM industry, current/emerging medical and pharmacy trend management strategies, current/emerging CVS enterprise offerings, drivers of CVS enterprise revenue/profitability, and drivers of health plan client revenue/profitability.
- Perform complex financial analyses that are complete, accurate, and agreed to by business partners.
- Ability to work well in a matrixed, multidisciplinary team environment, as well as independently.
- Apply business and analytical expertise to make informed recommendation and decisions.
- Receive and respond to feedback from senior level executives using sound judgment and maturity.
Required Qualifications
- 7-8+ years progressively responsible professional actuarial and/or finance experience.
- ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries).
- Strong understanding of Health Care Benefits, Health Care Delivery, PBM and/or Pharmacy segments; experience across multiple segments is a plus.
- Proven project management skills including experience in development and management of multiple projects and various initiatives.
- Understanding of marketplace and competitive trends, enterprise strategy and constituency expectations.
- Demonstrated leadership and project management experience.
- Ability to work well in a matrixed, multidisciplinary team environment, as well as independently.

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is: $79,200.00 - $174,200.00. This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
