Mission
Stanley/Stella, the European leader in premium, sustainable blanks, is expanding into the US, and we are looking for a highly motivated, experienced Controller to join our team during this exciting start-up phase.
As the first finance hire in the US, this role is essential in establishing the financial foundation for Stanley Stella's US operations. The Controller will handle all financial functions from accounting, financial planning, budgeting, tax, compliance, and reporting, while also working closely with the Brussels headquarters.
Main responsibilities
- Serve as the primary accounting function during the initial start-up phase, responsible for day-to-day accounting tasks.
- Lead the accounting portion of the ERP system setup and testing, ensuring seamless integration of financial workflows.
- Work in partnership with the COO on financial planning and strategy.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports, including monthly and yearly closing activities, reconciliations, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, collections, general ledger, payroll, tax filings, and all other accounting functions.
- Ensure credit policies are followed, with appropriate credit approvals to mitigate risk and maintain healthy cash flow.
- Oversee and manage the company’s budget, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and financial forecasts.
- Handle all tax matters, including filing federal and state taxes, managing tax obligations, and ensuring compliance with local regulations.
- Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure operational liquidity.
- Ensure compliance with local and international accounting regulations, GAAP, and internal policies.
- Assist in preparing the company for audits.
- Provide key insights to support financial analysis and reporting, ensuring data accuracy for decision making.
- Identify opportunities to optimize, automate, and digitize financial processes to ensure we continue to step-up our game.
- Build and structure the accounting department to support long-term growth, including recruitment and leadership of new hires.
Your profile
- Bachelor’s or master's degree in finance, Accounting or related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Big 4 audit experience (2-3y) combined with in-house accounting experience (2-3y) is highly preferred. Experience with ERP system setup (knowledge of Infor, M3 is a plus), integration, and accounting module testing.
- Proven experience with financial reporting, general ledger functions, and the month-end/year-end close process.
- Track record of successfully managing credit control and risk.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance. CPA, CFA, or relevant accounting certification is preferred.
- Experience working with an international corporate center based in Europe is a plus.
- Proven experience managing all aspects of accounting in a fast-paced, growing company.

- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the accounting function.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Power BI.
