Job Summary:
The Accounting Clerk within the Office of the Chief Safety Officer will work at the Public Safety Building as an integral part of the finance team. We seek a dynamic and innovative individual who will assist with invoice processing, transaction reconciliation, department deposits, fingerprint services, phone calls and emails, and other general office duties as assigned. The Accounting Clerk should effectively collaborate with fellow team members to ensure a positive experience for external and internal customers and colleagues.
Safety is a top priority for the University of Utah. The Chief Safety Officer (CSO) oversees the University’s Department of Public Safety, which includes University Police, Campus Security, Health Security, Emergency Management, and Emergency Communications.
Job Responsibilities:
• Performs routine transactional accounting work.
• Validates bills, audits invoices, identifies discrepancies and trends.
• Prepares journal entries for posting into the general accounting system.
• Compiles financial and business transaction data from source documents for processing.
• Compiles and organizes financial documents for processing and retention.
• Assists with department tracking of accounts payable and/or accounts receivable.
• Reconciles financial data and/or invoices, reports discrepancies and outliers.
• Reviews source documents for completeness and accuracy.
• Assists in receiving, greeting, and directing visitors of the Public Safety Building.
• Provides assistance to other members of finance and administrative support team.
• Supports Public Safety’s fingerprinting services as needed.
• Utilizes communication technology (Microsoft Teams, Office, etc.) to notify staff of visitors, vendors, and/or department updates.
Problem Solving:
Incumbents are expected to be familiar with the department’s policies and procedures and have a working knowledge of University and department organizations and procedures to assist staff and visitors.
This position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screen.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience performing accounting functions and preparing related reports, or equivalency; the ability to use standard office machines, calculators, and data input terminals; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences:
Experience in an office setting. Experience with Microsoft systems (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.).
