Position Overview
Policy and Research Analysts play a crucial role in shaping data-driven decisions within our organization. Reporting directly to the Director for Policy and Research, they are instrumental in collecting, analyzing, and reporting data pertaining to civic literacy in the Central Carolinas region. Through their research and analysis, Policy & Research Analysts provide valuable insights that inform our policy development, programmatic initiatives, and advocacy efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and compile data from various sources, including surveys, government reports, academic studies, and community assessments, related to civic literacy in the Central Carolinas.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of data sets to identify trends, patterns, and disparities in civic knowledge, engagement, and participation.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define research objectives, develop research methodologies, and establish key performance indicators for evaluation.
- Produce comprehensive reports, briefs, and presentations summarizing research findings and implications for policy and programmatic interventions.
- Utilize data visualization techniques to present complex information in a clear, compelling, and accessible manner for diverse audiences.
- Stay abreast of emerging research, best practices, and policy developments in the fields of civic education, democratic governance, and community engagement.
- Support the development and implementation of policy recommendations, advocacy strategies, and grant proposals based on research findings.
- Assist in the design and execution of data collection instruments, such as surveys, focus groups, and interviews, to gather primary research data as needed.
- Provide technical assistance and training to staff members on data collection, analysis, and interpretation methods.
- Collaborate with external partners, including government agencies, research institutions, and community organizations, to exchange data, share insights, and coordinate research efforts.
Time Commitment
As a volunteer organization, we hold biweekly staff meetings lasting approximately 2 hours each. While there are no fixed work hours, we encourage you to dedicate available time between these meetings to projects relevant to your role.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, sociology, economics, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and draw actionable conclusions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting research findings to diverse audiences.
- Detail-oriented approach to research design, data management, and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Commitment to accuracy, integrity, and ethical standards in research practice.
- Knowledge of issues related to civic education, political participation, and community development is desirable.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace and project management platforms such as Asana.
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving research priorities and organizational needs.
- Preference will be given to candidates that reside within the Charlotte metropolitan area.
