Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Leads the Accounting department in a manner consistent with our mission and core values.
- Develop each employee to their highest potential by identifying their areas for improvement and appropriately coaching, training or correcting the employee's performance.
- Recognize employees who perform at a high level.

- Meets with each employee monthly to review previous month's performance, set goals for upcoming month's performance and develop plans to improve employee's performance.
- Ensure department goals are met as established by First Harvest CU.
- Demonstrate enthusiastic support of corporate mission, core values, and long-term objectives.
- Performs job duties within our bylaws, regulations, Board of Directors policies, established internal and external service standards and our work procedures.
- Manages the accounting department, including accounts receivables, payable, auditing and owner accounting. Ensure optimal efficiency of accounting operations and adherence to stated credit union policies.
- Assists with the preparation of for all monthly, quarterly and yearly financial statements and the accuracy of its entries.
- Evaluates, motivates, coaches, and supervises department personnel regarding policy/procedure adherence, career advancement, attendance, performance and all other related personnel issues.
- Communicates department goals to staff and monitors progress toward attainment of those goals.
- Supports and encourages staff to participate in available credit union self-development education programs and required compliance courses through self-study, BAI Learning, and the credit union's training department.
- Provides input for the budget for the department and tracks on an ongoing basis for adherence.
- Maintains and monitors general ledger and balance sheets on a daily basis; reconciles cash account, general ledger entries, and bank statements. Researches any differences and enters adjustments.
- Maintains subsidiary ledgers of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, and monitors and resolves outstanding items.
- Acts as a back-up to the Wire/EFT process, posting entries to members' accounts.
- Reviews settlement of Official Checks, cash letters, and Federal Reserve activity.
- Confirms reconciliation of the Federal Reserve account daily, researching and resolving differences.
- Reviews balances of Plateau and Money Market accounts daily, verifying funds are available for funding settlement.
- Oversees the Accounts Payable area and confirms accurate processing of invoices for payment.
- Answers telephone calls as needed and responds to member inquiries and requests. Acts as the key individual when resolving more challenging member issues.
- Schedules and conducts staff meetings within the department.
- Adheres to the FHCU Service Standards as established.
- Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a leader.
Qualification Requirements
Educational/Training Requirement:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Equivalent Experience
Experience
- Minimum 5 years in Accounting Department in a financial institution
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Accounting knowledge
- Ability to develop adeptness in credit union and accounting software programs
- Highly proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office
- Excellent data entry skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to work independently and exercise judgment
