This temporary position is located in Kinston - Lenoir County.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety. This position is located at 3055 Dobbs Farm Rd., Kinston, NC 28504.
This position will assist the Food Service Supervisor to provide support of the facility's Child Nutrition Program and will ensure compliance with the Departments' Federal Child Nutrition Program regulations by:
- Providing nutritionally adequate meals meeting the Federal Child Nutrition Program partners.
- Maintaining required records, reports, and inventories in compliance with federal and state regulation.
- Requisition food and supplies as needed.
- Checking the cost and quality of items received and ensuring proper storage.
- Complying with policies and procedures of the Department.
- Assuming any responsibilities as designated by the Detention Center Cook II Supervisor and/or Youth Development Center Food Service Supervisor IV and/or immediate supervisor, facility Director, the Child Nutrition Program Administrator and Child Nutrition Program Administrative Officer.

- Basic knowledge of methods of preparation and cooking of food in quantity lots.
- Basic knowledge of the amounts of raw food needed to supply the number of persons to be served.
- Basic knowledge of the standard tools, methods, and practices utilized to maintain food safety.
- Basic knowledge and ability to maintain high standards of sanitation as outlined in the NC Food Code.
- Considerable knowledge of the uses and adaptabilities of the various pieces of equipment including kettles, convection ovens, convection steamers, braising pans, mixer, food processors, slicers and deep fryers.
- Ability to properly alter food consistency such as chopped, ground and pureed.
- Ability to perform simple mathematical computations.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to interpret and follow standard recipes and prescribed.
