Function Overview
The Corporate Finance Advisory Function exists to help generate, integrate and deliver thoughtful capital market solutions to Scotiabank’s Global Banking & Markets corporate clients. The Function partners with Corporate & Investment Banking sector teams, Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets and other product areas to provide in-depth analysis, drive idea generation, strengthen financing recommendations and help identify ancillary business opportunities. Focus areas include: debt capacity analysis, capital structure optimization to achieve financial and/or credit rating objectives, rating agency process facilitation and outcome management for inaugural and existing issuers. The Function has been building its team to deliver on its global mandate.
Position Highlights
The team is looking for an Analyst or an Associate. Members of the team enjoy a stimulating and challenging work environment in which they will be involved in a broad range of transactions. The job is responsible for supporting senior members of the team in the generation of new business opportunities, as well as successfully executing.
At the early stages of their career, the candidate will focus on financial modeling, research, credit ratings analysis, capital structure benchmarking and assisting in preparing client presentations. As the individual’s career progresses, the candidate will take on increased responsibilities on live assignments and participating in business development under the guidance of senior group members. On any given project, you will interact with other departments of the firm such as Corporate Banking, Investment Banking sector teams, Mergers & Acquisitions, Debt Capital Markets, and Equity Capital Markets, gaining knowledge and understanding of both investment banking and the capital markets. Scotiabank also brings junior team members in contact with senior cross-functional team members and clients at the earliest possible stage, allowing them to gain experience in managing and cultivating relationships.
What You'll Do:
- Evaluate and analyze the financial needs of corporate clients
- Collecting, consolidating and interpreting company, industry and market data
- Completion of credit rating analysis including scenario analysis using external credit rating methodologies
- Create well thought-out analysis and deliver high-quality presentations
- Facilitate the execution of ratings advisory mandates including supporting drafting of rating agency presentations and marketing materials for transactions, liaising with credit rating agencies, cross-functional deal team members, and external clients
- Collecting, maintaining and ongoing analysis of client, market and product data; and
- Identifying and developing business opportunities with clients.
What You'll Bring:
- A minimum of 2 years of corporate and/or investment banking or leveraged finance experience. Experience at a rating agency will also be considered.
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business, Finance, Math, Engineering, Economics, Science or Technology
- CFA, CPA or equivalent designation is an asset
- Highly proficient in using FactSet / CapitalIQ (including related modeling in Excel)
- Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Excel
- Proven record of outstanding achievement in academic and extracurricular activities.
Work Arrangement:
- This position is currently a hybrid role, with the expectation that you will work 4 days a week in the office (minimum). Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
