Who We're Looking For
We are looking for a talented Data Engineer who is passionate about building software and data pipelines to join a collaborative and distributed group of Developers on our core Analytics development team. You will be designing, writing, and implementing modern data systems with unified data models for Syniverse cloud-based data analytic products serving 500+ worldwide mobile carriers and enterprise customers. You will have the opportunity to work with an experienced and industry-leading development team, tackle the challenges of processing massive real-time transactions, optimize or even create new data architecture to support next-generation data initiatives.
The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems or building new solutions from the ground up and is open to learning new technologies. The Data Engineer will work with developers, architects, product managers, and data analysts on data initiatives and ensure optimal data delivery with good performance and uptime metrics.
Some of What You'll Do
Scope of the Role:
- Direct Reports: This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain software tools and data pipelines.
- Deliver complex features with quality and supportability.
- Write and maintain clear architecture, tests, and system guide documentation.
- Collaboratively define, scope, prioritize, and estimate work.
- Assist with implementations and ensure the software is functioning as expected.
- Review design documents and code to provide constructive feedback.
- Identify, design, and implement data processes: automating processes, optimizing data delivery, etc.
- Build infrastructure and tools to increase data ETL velocity.
- Test and deploy programs and applications.
- Triage, reproduce, and debug issues reported by other coworkers for our areas of responsibility.
- Work autonomously on new items and be proactive in unblocking yourself either by finding solutions or reaching out to other peers.
- Adhere to the team's culture of following the SDLC process of tracking bugs and features.
- Constantly improve product quality, security, and performance.
Experience, Education, and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of experience as a full-time Software Developer/Engineer, including 3+ years’ work in Data Engineering fields.
- 3+ years of experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
- 3+ years of experience with relational SQL databases, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.
- 3+ years of experience with programming languages, such as Java, Scala, Python, etc.
- Familiarity with Git.
Additional Requirements:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in big data frameworks or software development in either Python, Java, Scala, or C++.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes.
- Experience with stream-processing systems: KSQL, Spark-Streaming, etc.
- Good analytic skills related to working with structured and unstructured datasets.
- Knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and scalable big data stores.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
- Desire to continually keep up with advancements in relevant technologies.
- Experience with Agile and Scrum development methodologies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
