This Opportunity
WSP has an immediate opening for a highly skilled, motivated, and experienced Lead Consultant, Transit & Rail for our growing San Francisco, Oakland, or Sacramento, CA Offices. Be involved in projects with our Northern California Transportation Business Line and serve as a trusted client advisor on large scale, complex passenger rail transit projects and programs involving infrastructure investments in California communities and around the West region.
This position will work closely with other Senior Transit Technical Leaders and management professionals in leading a dynamic multi-disciplinary team that will advance significant transit capital programs through the entire project life-cycle including, but not limited to: environmental review, design, procurement, and construction.
The individual must be a motivated team player, able to provide high-level technical interdisciplinary design coordination among planners, designers, engineers, and architects. Experience with plan and specification development, contract packaging, procurement, and risk identification and mitigation required. The candidate will ensure that transit and rail engineering subject matter and technical deliverables, infrastructure projects and programs are developed with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Responsible for ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal engineering, construction, and safety regulations, and providing strategic and consistent direction to address current and future challenges.
Your Impact
- Proficiency with the transportation project development cycle, including from planning to implementation.
- Work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project deliverables such as technical reports and presentations, early feasibility, all design phases, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address implementation.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise project work.
- Remain current in latest transit and rail engineering techniques, practices, and industry trends to become a thought-leader within Northern California.
- Work collaboratively with other local and national disciplines on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
- Support and empower staff and/or direct reports to execute projects on time and on budget.
- Liaise with Transit and Rail National Business Line, clients, consultants, regulatory agencies, and major project stakeholders, and contractors.
- Develop and maintain relationships with public and private sector clients, agencies, partner firms and sub-consultants, as well as other external stakeholders such as vendors and suppliers.
- Lead and/or support business development initiatives and proposal execution.
- Engage in staff development which includes mentoring, training, coaching and professional development.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 5-7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, prior transit and rail experience, and infrastructure design.
- Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of a rail transit & systems project delivery: conceptual, preliminary and final design, design support during construction, testing and commissioning, and rail activation.
- Ability to serve as Pursuit Manager for transit and rail opportunities.
- Ability to provide support to transit and rail marketing and sales programs in accordance with business unit objectives.
- Must be comfortable with overall project accountability, change management, schedule and scope management.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and be detail-oriented.
- Organizational skills to prioritize and manage a diverse workload.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work in project offices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Capital Investment Grant programs and Caltrans design requirements.
- Experience with both local transit/programming agencies and other mature national transit clients.
- Active involvement in transit-related organizations or societies.

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $83,000 - $145,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
