Reporting to a Supervisor, is responsible for responding to general special education questions received by the department, reviewing and approving deviation requests, processing applications for State Directors, and assisting with reviews and edits of documents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as the primary responder to general special education questions received by the department.
- Provides responses to inquiries based on federal and state special education rules and regulations.
- Refers inquirer to agency resources as applicable.
- Collaborates with others in the Agency to ensure accuracy of responses.
- Reviews and approves deviation requests.
- Prepares, reviews and edits department guidance documents, presentations, reports, applications, and forms for accuracy in grammar, style, and formatting.
- Reviews federal and state statutes and regulations and other documentation in preparing written documents.
- Assists with developing requests for proposals, requests for sealed proposals, and other grant and contractual documents.
- Prepares, reviews, and edits correspondence by management and submits correspondence upon request.
- Reviews and approves applications for state-approved Directors of Special Education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Special Education or school service personnel area (School Psychology, School Social Work, Speech Language Pathology), or a Bachelor's degree in Special Education. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
- Professional Educator License endorsed in Special Education, School Service area, or Director of Special Education.
- Two years of experience in special education at the local, state, or university level if a Master's degree. Five years of relevant professional experience required if a Bachelor's degree.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state special education rules and regulations.
