WSP is initiating a search for a Full Time Commissioning Consultant to join our Arlington, VA office.
Provides technical assistance and guidance for activities to validate construction, integrity, operability, and the commissioning of building systems and facilities projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the planning, directing, coordinating, testing, and commissioning and retro commissioning of building systems including HVAC, steam, compressed air, chilled water, plumbing, and automation. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding the configuration of equipment, optimization studies, system functional testing, readiness testing, and the transition from the construction phase to full operations. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for performance, reliability, safety, and security for building inhabitants.
Your Impact
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site during various construction phases, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project energy auditing actions, validation, and commissioning.
- Perform professional building and system commissioning work by conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and installation or operating permits.
- Assist with developing configuration, testing specifications, and readiness plans; preparing and updating checklists/punch lists and cost estimates that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
- Participate in incorporating advanced technology, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications; implementing future-ready solutions with building systems operating standards.
- Participate in verifying site characteristics and providing technical assistance on various design, installation, and integration issues relating to commissioning and retro commissioning of building systems including HVAC, steam, compressed air, chilled water, plumbing, and automation.
- Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work, assist with laying out commissioning activities, calculating costs, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, schematics, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Maintain quality control standards, document logs of control and equipment functionality testing and verification, and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, calculations, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized commissioning projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to navigate, improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or installation/operational issues or opportunities.
- Conduct studies and testing to gain further information on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Work collaboratively with other professionals, engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on building improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior building and systems commissioning experience.
- Knowledge of building commissioning principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
- Experience with building planning, design, and installation management; including renovation and new design projects.
- Knowledge of smart building design.
- Knowledge of relevant building technology/system installation and/or construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of testing and validation, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate standards or regulations.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit).
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- LEED certification desired.
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
