Position Summary:
The Instrument Service Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment and instruments used in the analysis of environmental laboratory samples. This role ensures that all laboratory equipment operates at peak efficiency, minimizing downtime and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of analytical results. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform and log routine/preventive maintenance on instruments and peripherals according to the maintenance plan/schedule.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure equipment operates within specifications.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of equipment maintenance, calibration, and repair activities.
- Maintain and organize adequate stock levels of spare parts and peripherals.
- Identify new sources or develop/design upgrades for obsolete parts and assemblies.
- Maintain, organize, and create technical documentation, procedures, schematics, work instructions, and parts lists.
- Provide timely updates to management through status reports and service reports.
- Manage and lead equipment calibration.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues with laboratory instruments and equipment promptly to minimize downtime.
- Order and replace faulty components, ensuring all repairs comply with laboratory standards and regulations.
- Set up new and existing analytical instruments to meet production needs.
- Identify new technologies and/or reconfigure current procedures to improve production throughput and/or quality.
- Test, document, train, and implement process improvements as needed.
- Work closely with laboratory staff to ensure equipment meets quality standards for sample analysis.
- Implement corrective actions and improvements to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
- Prepare reports on equipment performance, downtime, and any recurring issues.
- Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades or replacements based on performance data and laboratory needs.
- Provide technical training and support to laboratory personnel on the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
- Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to equipment operation and maintenance.
- Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting and resolving equipment-related issues.
- Ensure all laboratory equipment is maintained in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in laboratory equipment and technology.
- Assist and support facility/infrastructure maintenance as needed to ensure a suitable working environment for instruments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience preferably in maintaining and troubleshooting GCMS (7890/5975, 7890/5977, and 8890/5977) in an analytical air laboratory setting.
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair complex equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to train and support laboratory staff.
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
- Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.
Physical Requirements:
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Additional Requirements:
- Availability for on-call support in case of urgent equipment issues.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with advancements in laboratory equipment and technology.
Compensation Range: $65,000- $85,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.
Position is full-time, Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm shift and is exempt from overtime pay.
