Advance Practice Nurse - Psychiatric (Psychiatric Mid-Level Practitioner)

DutiesResponsible for meeting the mental/behavioral health needs of the inmates assigned to their caseload.
Responsible for providing thorough mental health evaluation, providing initial diagnosis, initiating treatment and coordinating programs for patients suspected of having psychiatric disorders.
Responsible for the development of the treatment plan and/or mental health component of the ambulatory treatment plan and subsequent reviews for patients under their care.
Balances medical and mental health needs of patient caseload with institution security and staff safety needs.
Provides inpatient and outpatient services for mental health patients and consultant services for medical/surgical patients requiring psychiatric intervention.
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

QualificationsTo be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Basic Requirements:
Education: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and applicants applying for Advance Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
In addition to the Basic Requirements:
Experience: Work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Some examples of qualifying experience are:
- Experience which demonstrates knowledge of a wide range of nursing and medical principles, theories, techniques and practices to perform clinical evaluations and medical managements of patients with psychiatric disorders.
- Experience in psychotherapeutic interventions including theory and practice of individual therapies, behavior modification and cognitive behavior therapy and group therapy.
- Experience devising, implementing and evaluating plans based on assessment of the physical, psychological, emotional, social and environmental needs of clients.
Selective Placement Factor:Applicants applying for this position
MUST also possess the following Selective Factor. In the event you do not possess the Selective Factors, you will be found ineligible for the position.
- Applicants must have one year of experience in a mental health setting as a medical professional.
