Job Summary
We are seeking an Assistant Motor Pool Mechanic to join our talented team in transportation. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire and the ability to excel in the trade of automotive repair, maintenance, and asset management with a focus on diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues in a timely manner. The Assistant Mechanic will inspect, service, and repair our fleet of vehicles and campus emergency generators to ensure they meet safety standards and operational requirements. They will be a key player in asset management and maintain records including smog certification, DMV registration, insurance certification and all other certifications needed for our department to stay current will all regulations.
Essential Job Duties
- Responsible for following all safety procedures and maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
- Maintains cleanliness of the vehicles and mechanic shop.
- Coordinate the renewal of DMV records including smog checks and certifications.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, brakes and filter inspections, and fuel filling, for vehicles including 90-day safety inspections and scheduling yearly services.
- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles and emergency generators to identify potential problems and recommend necessary repairs.
- Perform planned maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities using computerized systems.
- Assist in the procurement of replacement parts and supplies.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to stay updated on new technologies and automotive trends.
- Act as a backup to transportation delivery and chauffeur team when needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent or automotive trade school education.
- At least 1 year of automotive mechanic experience.
- At least 1 year of transportation work experience, including delivery driving or chauffeur experience.
- Knowledge of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical components.
- Knowledge of diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Must maintain a valid California driver's license throughout the course of employment.
- Must be able to communicate, both written and verbally.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
- Ability to work in a warehouse setting with occasional exposure to industrial operations (temperatures, noise, etc.).
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating tools and equipment.
- The selected candidate must pass a pre-employment background investigation and post-offer physical examination to be hired for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a vocational or technical training program in automotive repair is preferred.
- Hazmat certification.
- Forklift license.

Hiring Range
$22.00 - $27.00 Per Hour
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
