Summary/Objective:
The Lab Supervisor is responsible for supervising the performance of work in one or more divisions of the Laboratory and provides laboratory services to patients in accordance with accepted practice and hospital standards. This non-clinical position requires skills and experience in laboratory procedures. The Lab Supervisor must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall operation of the division(s), section(s), or area(s) assigned.
- Prioritizes activities based on demands for service in collaboration with the Director of Laboratory Service.
- Stays alert to the detection of errors in own work and the work of others with appropriate corrective actions initiated.
- Performs routine shift start-up, including quality controls and documentation of these controls.
- Performs appropriate shift maintenance of instrumentation.
- Utilizes specialized knowledge of Laboratory Services principles in performing general duties.
- Notifies physician and/or other members of the health care team of corrected results in a timely manner with appropriate documentation in the computer system.
- Notifies charge nurse of Critical results in a timely manner with immediate reporting, documenting time, name of person and read back verification in the computer system.
- Maintains high degree of competency in the operation of equipment in the performance of Laboratory Services testing.
- Assists in the recommendation and justification of capital equipment acquisitions.
- Assists with selection, development and implementation of new procedures.
- Maintains current procedure manual, writes laboratory procedures in CLSI format and in accordance with requirements of accrediting agencies.
- Oversees timely and accurate completion and reporting of laboratory proficiency testing, such as the CAP survey program.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science AND 1 year training and experience in the designated discipline or area of service; OR
- Associate degree in laboratory science or medical technology or equivalent education and training AND 2 years laboratory training or experience, or both, in the designated discipline or area of service.
Required License/Certifications:
- ASCP or AMT certification or certification eligibility.
