Natividad is currently seeking to fill a permanent Non-Denominational Spiritual Care Advisor to be available various hours to include holidays and weekends to assist with spiritual care services. Under general supervision, the Spiritual Care Advisor provides spiritual counseling and guidance to patients and their families in addition to staff personnel to help motivate individuals to integrate their religious beliefs, attitudes, and responses for the constructive management of their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Will have proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Working Knowledge of:- Common Standards of Professional Chaplains and the Code of Ethics for Chaplains.
- Standard department/hospital procedures and employee guidelines.
- Ministry counseling and care support of patients and their family members involved in traumatic accidents, undergoing surgical procedures, and/or facing end-of-life issues.
- Pastoral support and care in handling and responding to unforeseen and planned crises within a variety of settings.
- Spiritual caregiver resources, such as ministers, rabbis, or Imams to meet the requested needs of patients.
- Interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
Skill and Ability to:- Accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
- Conduct assessments of individual(s), family, or staff needs to determine the appropriate spiritual care intervention required.
- Work in a multi-faith environment.
- Respond with compassion and respect to individuals and families with diverse ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs.
- Provide spiritual counseling, guidance, comfort, and support to patients, family members, and staff as requested.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary committee or team in support of patient or staff member care.
- Work with economically disadvantaged, undocumented, or homeless individuals.
- Effectively handle stressful situations and maintain a calm demeanor while responding to various individuals that may be experiencing a spiritual crisis or in distress.
- Work independently and maintain flexibility when faced with multiple priorities.
- Maintain a log of care service provided for each patient while maintaining confidentiality of patient care.
Responsible For
SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
- Prepares, plans, and conducts religious services and activities; makes arrangements for representatives of various beliefs to conduct spiritual services and activities; prepares Spiritual Care Advisor activity reports.
- Evaluates patient needs for spiritual guidance and counseling and initiates or recommends individual programs and services to meet those needs.
- Meets with patients and employees upon request for private counseling.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Counsels, interviews, and advises employees, patients, and family members on moral, spiritual, domestic, and personal problems; confers about domestic problems and other problems.
- Performs the duties of Spiritual Care Advisor in other spiritual matters.
- May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker as required.
Additional Requirements
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Natividad requires that all incumbents pass a pre-employment physical/medical assessment.
- Natividad will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
- Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid CA Driver License for the class vehicle driven and a clean driving record.
- Employees must have and show their original Social Security Card and a valid CA Driver License or CA State ID prior to the first day of work.
- Incumbents may be required to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Incumbents may be required to work with potentially hazardous and infectious substances.

Education:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in pastoral education, divinity, theology, or a related field.
Experience:Pastoral experience within the local community is desirable.
Certification:Clinical Pastoral Education Certification is highly desirable.
