Position Title: Laboratory Technician 2 - Toxicology/Implied Consent
The Oregon State Police in Salem, Oregon is hiring for one (1) Full-Time Laboratory Technician 2 position, at the Portland Forensic Laboratory located in Clackamas, Oregon.

The salary listed is the non-PERS (Public Employee Retirement System) qualifying salary range. Prior to applying you should ensure all sections of your Workday Job History page is accurate and complete. This information is utilized during the pay equity analysis phase.
Summary of Job Duties:
The primary purpose of this position is to perform support duties for analytical staff. This includes but is not limited to reagent preparation and testing; quality control checks of instrumentation and equipment; and maintaining accurate records and other logs for accreditation. You will also be responsible for inventorying and ordering chemicals, supplies, and equipment; maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment; vehicle maintenance; maintaining cleanliness in the laboratory; and working to mitigate issues in the facility.
Minimum Qualifications/Eligibility Requirements:
Two years of experience performing routine, standardized analytical tests and laboratory procedures in accordance with well-defined written instructions AND high school courses in chemistry, biology, mathematics, or any course which included laboratory work;
OR
A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a closely related field.
NOTE: An Associate’s degree in laboratory science may substitute for one year of the required experience. If you are selected to move forward in the selection process, you must provide official transcripts from all institutions of higher education that were used in the award of your degree.
Special Qualifications:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to provide credible sworn testimony in a criminal or civil proceeding arising from the performance of duties.
- As a condition of employment and / or to routinely work in any of the Forensic Services Division’s laboratories in any capacity, all individuals are required to provide appropriate samples for inclusion into the Confidential Staff DNA Identification Index.
- Must pass a urine analysis drug screen.
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated general lab knowledge to include, but not limited to, the preparation of solutions, working with scientific instrumentation, maintaining accurate records, and detailed note taking.
- Demonstrated experience supporting a professional program by working independently as well as part of a team without direct supervision.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate both verbally and in writing with a diverse team.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet both scheduled and unexpected deadlines, pivot to meet the changing needs of the work unit and respond in a professional manner under stress.
