POSITION SUMMARY
One of the earliest forms of learning for a child is language. This position offers both the roles of an evaluator and practitioner of language skills and how that impacts overall access to learning. As a part of our team of extraordinary educators, you will have the joy of witnessing the development of a student’s ability to connect with their world. This interesting and dynamic position offers opportunities to work closely with a team of evaluators to assess a student holistically, to learn from each other and grow in your own skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master’s degree or higher.
- One of the following:
• Speech Language Pathology License as issued by the Oregon Board of Examiners in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology
OR – If licensed before 2015;
• Oregon Teaching License with Special Education: Communication Disorders endorsement and American Speech and Hearing Association, Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech Language Pathology, or actively pursuing this Certificate. - Demonstrated successful experience in special education, including work with high needs populations.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the LBL Board of Directors/Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
GENERAL INFORMATION
This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities:
1. Maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and conduct oneself in accordance with the Standards of Competent and Ethical Performance of Oregon Educators.
2. Maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of our agency including ORSs, OARs, IDEA, FOIA and CIPA.
3. Promotion of equity and diversity in all settings and understanding and commitment to anti-racist principles.
4. Ability to work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
5. Demonstrates flexibility and a professional disposition in working with co-workers, constituent district personnel, and the public.
6. Demonstrates exceptional skills in building and maintaining a positive culture, consensus building, and effective and efficient team facilitation.
7. Present self and LBL in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication and maintaining professional dress standards.
8. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
9. Ability to sit in child-sized chairs for extended periods of time and/or sit on the floor for extended periods of time.
10. Ability to provide own transportation as deemed necessary for traveling to schools and districts throughout the school day and sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle.
11. Ability to lift, carry or transport up to 25 pounds.
12. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills and duties associated with this position. The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it’s deemed necessary.
1. Provide or direct the provision of speech and/or language therapy and services to identified students with communication disorders.
2. Assist education staff in observing and referring students with suspected communication disorders.
3. Provide individual evaluations in speech and language, as well as other areas that may be assigned, to identify students with communication disorders.
4. Provide comprehensive written report of observations, assessment results, and recommendations within the standards established by the EECC.
5. Participate as a specialist of communication disorders in determining eligibility.
6. Prepare and implement Individualized Education Programs for identified students on caseload.
7. Participate in developing integrated goals with other education staff for students with multiple or other disabilities.
8. Serve as a resource and consultant to provide specialized suggestions and/or materials for use by regular classroom staff or parents in the delivery of speech/language services or generalizations of previously acquired skills.
9. Compile and maintain required service records and documentation for assigned students on caseload.
10. Assist district in compliance with federal and state special education law requirements.
11. When assigned, provide supervision and paperwork requirements of American Speech – Language – Hearing Association (ASHA) Clinical Fellows, as requested by agency or districts and assigned by the program administrator.
12. When assigned, oversee activities, supervision and paperwork requirements of Oregon Board of Examiners certified Speech – Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA).
13. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
14. Adjust/adapt services as determined by work environments such as regular classroom or separate therapy room.
15. Participate in the Medicaid billing process for school-based services.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
