JOB SUMMARY:
To provide high quality, professional and compassionate radiation therapy to adult patients, as directed by a Radiation Oncologist.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Required: A.S. degree from an accredited radiation therapy technology program. Strongly Preferred: B.A. or B.S. degree or above
EXPERIENCE
- 3 or more years RTT experience in a progressive radiation oncology department.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS
- Ability to accurately follow instructions and work professionally with or without supervision
- Excellent communication skills to work clearly and effectively with patients, physicians, and staff
- Knowledge of technical procedures in the department and the ability to carry out procedures in an accurate, safe, and efficient manner
- Ability to follow instruction and follow documented procedures
- Ability to input computer data in an accurate and efficient manner
- Knowledge comparable to college-level instruction courses in anatomy, physiology, universal precautions, sterile procedure, occupational/radiation safety, mathematics, physics and medical terminology
- Ability to operate treatment equipment
- Familiarization with current theory and practice and new developments in radiation therapy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to lift and position adult patients for radiation procedures
- Ability to lift and position treatment blocks up to 30 lbs
- Visual acuity to observe patient skin markings
- Ability to accurately assess patient condition for ongoing treatment
- Ability to learn new technology and procedures
LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:
- CRT/ARRT certifications and State of California RTT license. Requirement is updated to maintain compliance with ARRT certification requirement
- Possession of BLS-HP (Basic Life Support, Healthcare Provider) certificate as required by Hospital policy
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL (not modifiable)
- Delivers radiation therapy treatments as prescribed
- Performs radiation therapy treatment planning for accurate simulation
- Performs patient set-up and CT scan for radiation therapy treatment planning purposes, as needed
- Assesses patient status during direct patient interaction, and makes appropriate referrals to various health care team members
- Performs billing activities for treatment procedures for treatment, devices, and simulation, and completes QA of billing for technical procedures
- Prepares for treatment delivery, including chart/film checks, room set-up, calculations, electronic medical record (MOSAIQ) check, treatment calendar (including programming port films etc.)
- Formulate patient treatment schedules on treatment machines—on paper and on MOSAIQ
- Makes treatment devices as needed
- Train new employees, including locum tenens on machines and be responsible for set-up in rooms
- Oversee students’ introduction to department and use of equipment
