Job Details
The Child Abuse Pediatrician will be part of the clinical team in the Division of Child Protection and Family Health in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah School of Medicine and the Center for Safe and Healthy Families at Primary Children’s Hospital. The pediatrician will provide medical consultation to children on an inpatient and outpatient basis who are undergoing evaluation for suspected child maltreatment. Members of the Division serve in a consultative role for medical and community professionals (CPS, law enforcement) throughout the Intermountain region. Clinical services are provided at Primary Children’s Hospitals in Salt Lake City and Lehi, UT; the University of Utah Burn Unit; and Children’s Justice Centers throughout Utah. In addition to clinical service, there is an expectation for academic work, including education, investigation, administration, and advocacy.
The Center for Safe and Healthy Families is located within the only tertiary care Level 1 pediatric trauma center in the Intermountain West. Primary Children’s Hospital and the Center for Safe and Healthy Families see a diverse patient population from Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada and other border states. We have a child abuse pediatrics fellowship and the opportunity to participate in the education of our pediatric residents, pediatric emergency medicine fellows, child psychiatry fellows, triple board residents, medical students, nurse practitioner students, and physician assistant students. In addition to our medical team, we have a large team of trauma therapists who are housed with us to support seamless delivery of trauma therapy to our patients. We have a robust research portfolio as well as a rural, underserved and tribal community outreach program. We have a long history of supporting research careers, novel educational programs for all levels, advocacy at the state and federal levels, and development of clinical service programs based on the career interests of our faculty.
Minimum Requirements: Qualified candidates must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatrics and in Child Abuse Pediatrics. The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure track at the academic rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.
