Responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, integrating, providing and evaluating the education, training and development of hospital employees within Surgical Services and as needed for affiliate personnel and physicians. Supports the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the organization through the integration of education and training with the purpose of ensuring quality health care. Maintains open communications and is available to component organizations and practitioner sites for consultation.

Bachelors in Nursing - Required
Masters in Nursing - Preferred
Experience
2-3 Years Clinical Role Within Department(s) of Surgical Services - Required
Clinical nursing experience in a department that prepares, performs, or recovers patients having invasive procedures. Example departments include but are not limited to Day Surgery, Outpatient Surgery, Surgery Center, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)/Phase I Recovery, and Phase II Outpatient Surgical Recovery. Leadership experience preferred. Preceptor experience required.
License & Certification
Professional License with State of Practice - Required
National Certification - Preferred at time of hire; Required within 2 years of hire.
Core Job Functions
- Provides structured, tiered competency based clinical experiences for new graduates. Provides consistent feedback and progress reports to the new graduate, and follow up with the nurse manager. Facilitates staff development and personal growth through peer review, observation, education and role modeling.
- Ensures credentialing and licensing of clinical staff is current. Complies with Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. Works closely with Medical Directors and facilitates quality outcomes of patient care.
- Plans and implements staff education activities based on learning needs assessments. Evaluates and documents outcome of staff educational experiences.
- Serves as a resource to staff in supporting service line/department focused activities. Uses peer review, observation, education and role modeling as tools for staff development. Collaborates with co-workers in implementing action plans for nurse sensitive indicator and quality metrics compliance.
- Responds timely to request for clinical expertise and utilizes appropriate resources for requests outside the scope of knowledge. Facilitates the orientation of new employees. Provides feedback and suggestions regarding new co-worker's progress.
