Position Summary
Sovah Health is looking for the ideal candidate who will direct the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives. The Director Surgical Services provides overall direction and leadership for the Surgical Services Departments (Pre-Procedure Screening, One Day Surgery, OR, Central Processing and PACU).
Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
- Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
- Directs a variety of personnel actions; staff selection (interviewing and hiring), provides orientation, prepares performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
- Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.
- Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
- Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: Graduate of a Program in Nursing required. Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree preferred.
- Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure appropriateness and continuity of care for the patients of Sovah Health Danville.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association preferred.
- Licenses: Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing or Compact State required.
- Minimum Work Experience: Five (5) years’ experience in surgical specialty setting required; Three (3) years’ experience as a full-time perioperative supervisory/management role required.
