Job Description
Marshall Health is currently seeking a MLS or MLT. Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager or authorized designee, and pursuant to Federal Regulations, clinical oversight by the Medical Director or appointed Pathologist:
- Performs laboratory tests in one or more of the fields of hematology, urinalysis, and chemistry in order to obtain data for use by the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Performs and monitors daily quality control and instrument maintenance.
- Observes laboratory safety regulations.
- Processes and analyzes samples in a timely and orderly fashion and meets usual and customary levels of productivity while following procedures for accurate identification.
- Takes appropriate action for Quality Control in all technical areas & follows established Infection Control Procedures for all job-related functions.
- Accurately processes send-out samples according to reference lab requirements.
- Follows established department criteria for processing and reporting of critical test values.
- Keeps work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
- Performs or assists with performance of Phlebotomy activities in a timely and professional manner.
- Actively tracks and resolves issues regarding missing samples or requisitions in a timely manner. Pursues the matter to a logical conclusion before sample deterioration.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Education: Currently licensed as a Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the WVDHHR if working in WV. If not currently licensed in WV, must obtain within 90 days of employment. Has successfully completed certification exam from the ASCP (preferred) or equivalent licensing board. Completion of certification is required within one year of employment, if not previously obtained.
Experience: One year laboratory experience preferred. Must have knowledge of general Medical Laboratory Terminology and familiarity with general office equipment and LIS Pathn.
